Staying connected doesn’t always happen face-to-face.

For many people, messaging, voice notes, and video calls are important ways to keep in touch — especially when distance, transport, or scheduling make in-person contact harder.

What We Do

Supported Chat Groups provide a structured, safe space for neurodivergent adults and adults with intellectual disability to learn, practise, and enjoy online communication with peers.

We help participants to:

  • Set up and manage peer-run chat groups on platforms such as WhatsApp or Messenger.

  • Use text, emojis, photos, polls, and video messages to share experiences and plan activities.

  • Build digital communication confidence, including safety, privacy, and respectful online behaviour.

  • Maintain friendships between in-person sessions through meaningful, ongoing contact.

  • Express themselves authentically through visual or video-based communication, supporting comprehension and recognition.

Why It Matters

Online connection offers flexibility, independence, and inclusion — especially for people who face barriers to seeing friends regularly.

Supported Chat Groups make communication more accessible and fun, helping friendships grow beyond structured sessions and into everyday life.

“Friendship doesn’t end when the session does — it just finds new ways to continue.”
