Communication Supports *
Communication is at the heart of connection — it’s how we build relationships, express choice, and take part in everyday life.
At Social Beings Speech Pathology, we support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to grow their communication skills in meaningful, real-life contexts — cafés, creative spaces, community hubs, workplaces, and homes.
What We Do
We focus on supporting communication in all its forms — spoken, visual, written, gestural, or through augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).
Our work includes:
Language modelling and natural communication scaffolds that make participation easier.
AAC assessment, implementation, and coaching for individuals and their support networks.
Building comprehension and expression through real conversations and experiences.
Communication partner training for families, peers, and support staff.
Supporting people to set their own communication goals based on what truly matters to them.
Why It Matters
When people are understood, they can lead, choose, connect, and belong.
Communication supports go far beyond speech — they build identity, independence, and confidence.
Our goal is to ensure that every person, no matter their communication style, has the tools, environments, and people around them to be heard and valued.
“Communication is a human right — not just a skill to be taught.”
